Who Submits the Application?

Under Japan’s Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds, the verification route depends on whether the applicant is a director registered with authority to represent the company. Selecting the correct route at the start avoids delays.

Route A · Recommended
Applied for by the Representative Director

The applicant is registered in the commercial registry as a director with authority to represent the company. This is the simplest route and can be completed entirely online.

  • Declare the corporate name and head office address
  • City Express retrieves the registry information directly and matches it against your declaration
  • The applicant’s authority to represent is confirmed from the registry itself
  • The director completes personal identity verification by eKYC
  • Purpose of transaction, nature of business and beneficial owners are confirmed
No non-forwardable mail to the head office is required — registration completes online.
Route B
Applied for by an Employee

Accounting, finance or sales staff without registered representative authority can also apply, with two additional steps required by regulation.

  • Declare the corporate name and head office address, matched against the registry as above
  • The applicant completes personal identity verification by eKYC
  • Authority to transact on behalf of the company is confirmed separately — by power of attorney, company email address, or a phone call to the company
  • Purpose of transaction, nature of business and beneficial owners are confirmed
Non-forwardable registered mail is sent to the registered head office, so this route includes a postal step.
